How Does a Hypoxic Air Generator Work?
A hypoxic air generator reduces the concentration of oxygen within the air supplied to the user. This recreates the lower oxygen availability experienced at altitude while remaining at normal geographical elevation.
With the POWERbreathe Apex Pro, the generated hypoxic air is delivered through the supplied Air Delivery Kit and face mask. The altitude setting can be adjusted depending on the training requirements, up to a simulated altitude of 4,500m.
Because the training takes place under controlled conditions, the system provides a practical way to introduce simulated altitude into an existing sports or performance programme.
Intermittent Hypoxic Training
Intermittent Hypoxic Training, commonly shortened to IHT, involves alternating periods of breathing hypoxic air with periods of normal air.
The Apex Pro can be used for Light Intermittent Hypoxic Training through its mask-based system. This provides a controlled way of introducing short periods of simulated altitude exposure without requiring the user to remain in an altitude environment continuously.
Training protocols should be selected according to the individual user, their objectives and appropriate professional guidance.
Live High Altitude Training
The Apex Pro can also support a Live High approach to altitude training.
Rather than completing only shorter mask-based sessions, the hypoxic air generator can be used with compatible POWERbreathe inflatable sleeping modules. This allows hypoxic air to be supplied during longer periods of rest or sleep, with the Apex Pro supporting sessions of up to eight hours.
This provides an alternative for users looking to incorporate longer periods of simulated altitude exposure into their training programme.
