Cleaning IMT & EMT Devices

Your POWERbreathe EX1 EMT breathing trainer will be exposed to saliva during use and we recommend that you clean it frequently to keep it hygienic and in good working order. It is recommended that you rinse your device after each use in warm running water and allow it to dry before your next training session.

Once a week soak your POWERbreathe breathing device for about ten minutes in warm water that contains POWERbreathe cleansing solution. After cleansing, hold the EMT device under a running tap so that water can run through the device to rinse it thoroughly. Shake off excess water and leave on a clean towel to dry.

If further cleaning is necessary, such as if saliva is sticking the device together making it difficult to use, you may disassemble your POWERbreathe EX1 EMT device into the following main component parts only and clean as above. Please be careful not to lose any of the components and always refer to your user manual when disassembling your device.

  1. Mouthpiece
  2. Main body
  3. Valve adjuster handle
  4. Valve assembly, which is a bayonet fit, so simply twist and pull. It is extremely important not to disassemble the device further, as the small parts can be easily misplaced

Regular cleaning

After each training session, remove the Valve Head from your device as demonstrated in your user manual, and soak it in warm water for about ten minutes. Now hold the valve head under warm running water whilst opening and closing the valve to aid cleaning of the valve surfaces. Shake off excess water and leave on a clean towel to dry.

Wipe-clean the POWERbreathe handset with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the handset or expose it to running water as this will damage the internal electronics.

Once a week

Once a week, perform the same procedure but soak the valve head in POWERbreathe Cleansing Solution instead of water. After cleaning, hold the valve head under a running tap allowing water to run through it. Shake off excess water and leave on a clean towel to dry.
