POWERbreathe International Ltd is excited to announce the launch of EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT) devices. These complement the bestselling Inspiratory Muscle Training range of breathing trainers.

POWERbreathe believes EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT) will enable people with breathing problems, as well as, singers, musicians, and sportspeople, to breathe out more forcefully, and with greater power. These new, drug-free breathing trainers target the expiratory muscles, activating them for improved power, strength, and endurance.

POWERbreathe EX1 EMT Breathing Trainers

POWERbreathe Breathing Training

As a world leader in breathing training, POWERbreathe applied decades of experience in Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) as a breathing therapy for health, medicine, sports and fitness, to Expiratory Muscle Training (EMT).

Unlike other breathing trainers that combine EMT and IMT in one device, POWERbreathe’s philosophy is for breathing training to be comfortable, manageable, and as effective as possible. Both EMT and IMT enhance breathing muscle function, but when performed concurrently, compromises the training benefits. Therefore, to elicit the maximum training benefits without compromise, it is best to perform EX1 expiratory muscle training independently of IMT.

10 Reasons To Choose POWERbreathe EX1 EMT

Designed and manufactured in the U.K., POWERbreathe EX1 EMT hand-held breathing trainers are CE Marked and UKCA Marked. They also use the well-established pressure threshold loading technique to ensure training intensity is quantifiable, adjustable, and appropriate. Threshold loading is a method of incrementally loading the expiratory muscles. This makes them work harder to improve power, strength, and endurance.

People who feel the need to forcefully empty air from their lungs, such as when coughing, playing a wind instrument, or singing, will benefit from stronger expiratory muscles. So too will people with a medical condition that results in difficulty swallowing or difficulty speaking. Older adults will also benefit from training with the POWERbreathe EX1, because ageing reduces muscle strength, including breathing muscle strength. Furthermore, stronger expiratory muscles are also beneficial for sportspeople wishing to improve their sports performance. This is because expiratory muscle fatigue, like inspiratory muscle fatigue, impairs performance.

What Is POWERbreathe EMT?

POWERbreathe EX1 Expiratory Muscle Training Devices

The new EX1 is available in 4 models, each with a variable load setting to allow for variations in expiratory pressure. This means we are able to offer the widest range of resistances in the market, for a better user experience.

Your expiratory pressure is measured in centimetres of water, or cmH2O (two hydrogen (H) atoms and one oxygen (O) atom). CmH2O is the most commonly used unit of pressure for measuring breathing on ventilators and respirators. CmH2O is also the unit of measurement for monitoring athletic performance.

POWERbreathe EX1 Medic10 to 80 cmH2O
POWERbreathe EX1 LR (Light Resistance)10 to 80 cmH2O
POWERbreathe EX1 MR (Medium Resistance)35 to 175 cmH2O
POWERbreathe EX1 HR (Heavy Resistance)55 to 220 cmH2O

“POWERbreathe is well established as the go-to brand for inspiratory muscle training, but with more research coming to light about the benefits of expiratory muscle training (EMT) too, we decided to use our expertise and investigate the most effective and comfortable method for EMT.”
