Inspiratory muscle ‘strength’ training (IMST) has been used in a study for lowering blood pressure. It refers to the specific stimuli for breathing muscles to respond to strength training using an Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) device. The stimuli used is a high intensity/load and short duration of breathing training. This is opposed to the stimuli for breathing muscles to respond to endurance training that is a low intensity/load and long duration.
