By targeting and challenging the #breathing muscle By targeting and challenging the #breathing muscles using the Flow-ball you can increase the control and the #stability of your exhaled airflow. This is beneficial for #musicians and #singers of all ages where sustained and controlled breathing is a requirement.

Ideas for Use:
🔵Blow the ball into the air and hold it there for as long as possible.
🟡Blow the ball into the air and catch it again with the blowing-pipe basket.
🔵Blow the ball into the air as high as you can, spin round on the spot and catch the ball again.
🟡Put a container on the table and at a distance you decide, blow the ball into the pot.
📑Time‐Efficient Inspiratory Muscle Strength T 📑Time‐Efficient Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training Lowers Blood Pressure and Improves Endothelial Function, NO Bioavailability, and Oxidative Stress in Midlife/Older Adults With Above‐Normal Blood Pressure.

ℹ️ The researchers recruited 36 people between the ages of 50 and 79 for their trial. All of the participants had high #bloodpressure, but were otherwise healthy.

For six weeks, half of the participants used an #IMST device with the resistance set to “high” for five minutes a day, six days a week.

The other half was the comparison group — they used the device as often, but with the resistance set far lower.

❗ At the end of the six weeks, the blood pressure of participants in the comparison group was the same. However, the people in the IMST group, with high resistance, saw an average reduction in their systolic blood pressure of nine points.

That’s about the same level of reduction expected from some medications and more than the reduction expected from walking for 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

✔️ Six weeks later, the participants’ blood pressure was still about 7 points lower than it had been at the start of the trial, even though they’d stopped using the IMST device.
Improve your #breathing strength and #stamina to i Improve your #breathing strength and #stamina to improve your core stability, fluidity of dance movement, musicality, aesthetics and expressiveness.

As a #dancer you learn to breathe not only efficiently, but with elegance, so that your upper chest can remain free to allow control and expression of your arms. This means you must control your breathing from your thoracic region and your #diaphragm. Another essential technique is learning to understand when to take a breath, and efficient breathing is a component of body conditioning in dance.

If your breathing becomes fatigued then your #posture and technique can suffer; you may create tension in your neck and upper back, and ultimately your dance performance is impaired. This can have a knock on effect, as the situation can become stressful and cause you to breathe more shallowly or even hold your breath. This is why breathing training is important in the life of a dancer. It can help to improve your performance by increasing your breathing strength and stamina.

🔹Breathing Training For Expressiveness In Movement🔹
Stronger inspiratory muscles (mainly your diaphragm and intercostal muscles) help you with opening and rising movements, which in turn help you to control your expiratory breath as you lower and close. Exercising your breathing muscles with POWERbreathe Inspiratory Muscle Training (#IMT) will make them stronger and improve their stamina, helping you to take in as much air as possible and hold it for when lifting. It will also help with more athletic #choreography when you need your breathing and stamina to match the demands that athletic dance has on your body. Also, when you tense any muscle during a dance performance, your breathing is affected, so inspiratory muscle training with POWERbreathe is an important component for dance conditioning.

Your breathing system comprises of tissues and org Your breathing system comprises of tissues and organs that help you to #breathe. It consists of your airways, lungs and blood vessels, and the muscles that enable you to breathe.

🔹Your airways🔹 are made up of your nose, mouth, larynx, trachea, bronchial tubes and bronchi. Not only do your airways carry oxygen-rich air to your lungs, but they also carry away the waste gas carbon dioxide.

As air enters your nose or mouth, it wets and warms it before it travels down your larynx (voicebox) and into your trachea (windpipe). This splits into two #bronchial tubes which enter your lungs. Your lungs then divide into five main sections called lobes.

Your 🔹breathing muscles🔹 include your #diaphragm, intercostals, abdominals and muscles in your neck and collarbone area (the accessory muscles). The main muscles of breathing fit around the lungs like semi-rigid bellows.

Your 🔹diaphragm🔹 is the main muscle you use for #breathing. It is a dome-like shape and located below your #lungs, separating your chest cavity from your abdominal cavity. As you breathe in, your diaphragm contracts and draws air in. Breathing out is more passive, with the rib cage and chest wall relaxing and returning to their original position. There is an exception to this however, and that is during high exertion which is when you recruit your accessory expiratory muscles.

Your 🔹intercostals🔹 are also primary #inspiratorymuscles and these are found between your ribs. Like the diaphragm, they also play a major role in helping you to breathe. They expand your chest as you breathe in.

🔹Improve how breathing works with POWERbreathe IMT🔹
POWERbreathe #IMT is a #drugfree, hand-held breathing training device. The medical term for this type of #breathingtraining is Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training, or #IMST. POWERbreathe IMT exercises the main muscles you use to breathe in, primarily your diaphragm and intercostals.

More frequent chest infections is one of the most More frequent chest infections is one of the most common symptoms of #COPD. Some are mild but some may include #coughing up #secretions from your chest.

Medicines, such as expectorants, are prescribed to help increase bronchial secretion. They help to make it easier to cough up secretions. But expectorants are medicines and may have contraindications with other COPD treatment.

#Shaker Deluxe by POWERbreathe however is an effective #drugfree alternative. It helps to shake the secretions loose, making it easier to cough up. Coughing is actually your body’s natural way of clearing your lungs. Coughing up secretions helps the body get rid of #infections, because secretions contain #virus and dead #bacteria. In people with COPD, this can help to minimise #chestinfections.

Living with a lung condition can be hard. Over the past year, the pandemic has taught us just how important it is to love our lungs.

- Inspiratory Muscle Training Benefits Everyone -
People who suffer from #asthma, #bronchitis, #emphysema and #COPD will benefit from POWERbreathe IMT. However, many others will adopt #IMT as part of their sports training. This is because #IMST strengthens the breathing muscles, improving breathing stamina and strength. In fact, studies show that regular IMT increases your #endurance during exercise or sports activities, such as #running and #cycling.

When you breathe normally, you typically use between 10 to 15 per cent of your total lung capacity. However, with Inspiratory Muscle Training, you can typically increase the amount of lung capacity you’re able to use. Deeper breathing with IMT uses a bit more energy, just like any other type of strength training. But with each deep breath, it also allows more oxygen to enter your bloodstream. And, at the same time, you’re strengthening your breathing muscles. Performing 30 breaths twice a day with POWERbreathe IMT for at least six weeks significantly reduces the amount of oxygen you’ll require while exercising. This results in more oxygen being available for your other working muscles, such as your legs while running or cycling.

BREATHING FACTS
It’s a breathing fact that there are differences in breathing capacity between the sexes. For instance, females have disproportionately smaller radial rib cage dimensions and shorter #diaphragm compared to males, making it harder to move air in and out of the lungs. But it’s not only this that affects the amount of #lungcapacity we have, but age, body composition and ethnicity are factors too.

At rest, an adult will generally breathe around 12-20 times a minute. This equates to just a few litres of air moving in and out of your lungs. However, during vigorous exercise this can raise to around 100 litres per minute.

Breathing Facts:
- Expiration is normally passive (only during heavy exercise workloads does it become forced).
- #Inspiratorymuscles play a vital role in the efficiency of breathing at rest and also during exercise.
- Strength of the inspiratory muscles reduces with age (approximately age 25 years).
- Weaker inspiratory muscles are usually highlighted with #breathlessness, especially in the elderly.
- At rest we use as little as 8-12 litres of air per minute.
- During exercise we can use around 100 litres of air per minute. Elite male athletes may even use twice this amount.
- #Respiratoryrate is a significant predictor of critical illness.

The cause of the unforgettable infection that is #COVID19 is the viral respiratory disease, SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), with many people experiencing #respiratoryproblems as a result. So, it’s no surprise that we are turning to #breathwork for nourishing both body and mind. In fact, breath work is now one of the fastest growing #wellness trends.

Breathwork encompasses the use of #breathingexercises and #breathingtechniques as a means of therapy for #selfhelp. This is because it helps to relieve physical, mental and emotional #stress and tension. For instance, a deep, diaphragmatic breath can stimulate your vagus nerve and lower stress responses. It activates your parasympathetic nervous system, also known as your ‘rest and digest’ system. In fact, a 2021 scientific study shows that diaphragmatic breathing training using POWERbreathe Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) lowers blood pressure too.

BENEFITS OF BETTER BREATHING
Training your breathing muscles (the #diaphragm, the muscles between the ribs (intercostal muscles), the muscles in the neck, and the abdominal muscles) to improve their strength, power and endurance has benefits for everyone. Here are just a few ways you could benefit from stronger breathing muscles:

In sport and exercise:
• Improves #fitness and #sportperformance
• Reduces whole body effort, so exercise feels easier
• Speeds up #lactate clearance

In performing arts:
• Enhances the ability to inflate the lungs (#breathedeeper)
• Enhances the ability to #controlyourbreath (how you inhale governs how you exhale)
• Warms-up breathing muscles prior to performance

In health and medical:
• Reduces #breathlessness and restores breathing power
• Improves #qualityoflife in people with debilitating breathing conditions
• Reduced consumption of medication of up to 79% in #asthma patients

In the uniformed services:
• Increased time to exhaustion during a standard laboratory #treadmilltest
• Reduced the rate of air use from the breathing cylinder used by firefighters (increasing wear time by around 1.5 min from a 15 min cylinder)
• Reduced #heartrate
