Don’t miss this exclusive webinar with Dr Christine Sapienza who will be teaching about Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST/EMT), evidence, training protocols and application in clinical practice and beyond.
Title: The Role of Respiratory Muscle Strength Training in Airway, Voice, and Swallowing Rehabilitation
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe the basic principles of Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) and its role in rehabilitation.
2. Explain how expiratory muscle strength contributes to airway protection, voice function, and swallowing.
3. Discuss clinical applications of EMST for individuals with breathing, voice, and swallowing challenges
Speaker Bio: An internationally recognised scientist and clinician, Dr Sapienza has spent more than 30 years helping shape the science and clinical application of respiratory muscle strength training (RMST). Her pioneering work in expiratory muscle strength training (EMST) has had a major impact across airway protection, swallowing, cough and voice-respiratory control.
Who Should Attend: This webinar is designed for speech and language therapists and pathologists, physiotherapists, respiratory clinicians, ENT doctors, sports scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, and exercise physiologists with an interest in translating breathing science into practical intervention.
Powering the Airway: RMST Meets Myofunctional Therapy. (This webinar is scheduled for 5.30pm Eastern Time, USA)
22nd Sep 2026, 23.30 - 00.30 GMT (17.30 - 18.30 CST)
Kaitlyn Shrum, MA, CCC-SLP, QOM, CMT, certBBM
Learning Objectives:
• Explain the role of respiratory muscle strength in breathing, upper airway health, and obstructive sleep apnea.
• Identify appropriate candidates for Respiratory Muscle Strength Training (RMST) within a myofunctional therapy practice.
• Integrate RMST into an evidence-informed myofunctional therapy program to enhance clinical outcomes using a case study.
Speaker Bio:
Kaitlyn Shrum, MA, CCC-SLP, QOM, CMT, certBBM, is the owner and founder of Southern Speech & Myo and Breathe Strong. She earned her Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Central Florida. Kaitlyn holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a Certified Myofunctional Therapist (CMT), Qualified Orofacial Myologist (QOM), and certified Buteyko Breathing Method (certBBM) instructor.
Who Should Attend:
This webinar is designed for speech and language therapists, physiotherapists, ENT and respiratory clinicians, sports scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, and exercise physiologists with an interest in translating breathing science into practical intervention.
Note: This webinar is scheduled for 5.30pm Eastern Time (USA), 10.30pm BST (UK)
IMT in Diabetes: A Multi-System Approach to Balance, Breathing, and Quality of Life
6th Oct 2026, 10.00 - 11.00 GMT (04.00 - 05.00 CST)
Dr Suman Sheraz, PT, PhD
Learning Objectives:
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Understand the physiological rationale linking inspiratory muscle training (IMT) to postural stability and functional balance, beyond its traditional respiratory role.
- Explore how IMT may be integrated into broader rehabilitation strategies for people with diabetes, alongside balance and mobility training.
- Reflect on patient-reported experiences and quality-of-life dimensions that quantitative outcome measures alone may not capture, drawing on real-world qualitative insights.
- Consider the practical and clinical implications of adopting IMT as part of a multidisciplinary approach to reducing diabetes-related complications.
Who Should Attend:
This webinar is designed for physiotherapists, respiratory clinicians, allied healthcare professionals, sports scientists, strength and conditioning coaches, and exercise physiologists with an interest in translating breathing science into practical intervention.

16th Oct 2026, 23.30 - 00.30 GMT (17.30 - 18.30 CST)
Dr Bari Hoffman, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs and Healthcare Innovation, University of Central Florida
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the role of respiratory muscle strength in voice production and respiratory–phonatory coordination.
- Identify appropriate candidates for respiratory muscle strength training (RMST) in individuals with voice disorders.
- Apply evidence-based principles to integrate RMST into assessment and treatment of voice disorder
