How well you can breathe is influenced by the condition of your breathing muscles. Optimal sports performance and great fitness rely on effective breathing – this can be achieved by strengthening your diaphragm, your main breathing muscle, with breathing training.
Completing breathing training with the POWERbreathe Classic Light Resistance device makes breathing feel easier and reduces your demand for oxygen during exercise which slows down your heart rate. As a result, you will benefit from improved breathing stamina and wellness.
Benefits of inspiratory muscle training with the POWERbreathe Classic include:
- Improved sports performance
- More energy with less effort
- Faster recovery after exercise
- Improved breathing in those with breathing issues
Strengthen your diaphragm- Breathing training with the POWERbreathe Classic Light Resistance focuses on strengthening your diaphragm rather than your lungs. This is because your lungs are a pair of spongy, air-filled organs, and not muscle like the diaphragm, and so cannot be strengthened.
9 adjustable levels- The breathing device has 9 adjustable levels – you move up to the next level when the resistance no longer challenges you.
This ‘load’ training is similar to weightlifting. For the POWERbreathe Classic Light Resistance, the level of load setting (weight lifted) is in increments of 10cmH2O, from 10cmH2O to 90cmH2O.
The range between each training level is quite small. As your breathing muscles become stronger and you move up one of the training levels by increasing the resistance, this small increase in cmH2O makes it more manageable.
See results after 4-6 weeks- Consistently follow the training regime of 30 breaths, twice a day to feel less breathless during exertion in 4-6 weeks. This is scientifically proven. Learn more about how the POWERbreathe IMT device works in our guide.
Trusted brand- The POWERbreathe Classic is the first breathing trainer we developed and it’s still as popular as when we first introduced it. Over the last 20 years, POWERbreathe has created innovative breathing products, intending to improve people’s health and wellness.
When you buy your POWERbreathe Classic Light Resistance from our site, you can be confident that it’s a genuine model. If you browse other websites, beware of fake lookalikes and devices claiming to be POWERbreathe.

Good afternoon, just thought I’d let you know how pleased I am with my purchase of classic Powerbreathe. In lockdown and no attendance at the gym, I am concerned that my respiratory effort was declining. Thank you for a great British made product bought through Lloyds pharmacy. E Kapoor

POWERbreathe training with a cancer patient
The doctors were really pleased with his repeat lung function tests, some of the values had improved considerably, they felt we’ve given him the best chance possible to making it through his transplant, and feel the Powerbreathe device has been a contributing factor to this despite us only having a small window of time to work with it.
He was using it daily from the day you dropped it off to the day he was transferred to Birmingham, and I’m confident he was going to continue with it after he left us. We had also managed to increase it up to number 4 from 1 in the few weeks he was using it.
If he comes back to us post transplant (which I have a feeling he may) I will keep you updated on his progress and possibly we may be able to arrange a review? Although this will depend very much on if he returns to us or goes straight home.
Many thanks for everything you did to help us in his management.

Very Sceptical at first, now I must admit I can see improvements
I was very sceptical of this device when I was first recommended it, as there are a lot of devices out there that make all sorts of fantastic claims to aid your breathing at Altitude. This is one of them that now has a growing voice from well respected high altitude mountaineers, along with having been used by numerous Everest expedition climbers and also has nearly a full page dedicated to it in the fantastic book “Mountaineering Training and preparation” a book which I can most certainly highly recommend for your training….
…It just seems such a simple device to use that it is hard to believe that it can be this alone that is making these huge improvements in my breathing, but without a doubt I have only noticed these improvements since using the PowerBreathe.

It’s fab for asthma but device can break
Wonderful for asthma, has really helped me improve my peak flow levels and coupled with physio helps get air into my lungs more, improving bronchiectasis and asthma. Every asthmatic should have one, and the NHS should be ashamed of themselves for not advertising its availability more. I have though been using mine for 3/4 months and the product is very plastic, the valve sticks and gives different resistances depending on how you hold it, which means I have no idea what level I’m on (I’m supposed to be on level 5) but the resistance changes every time I touch it! Still despite that, it’s well worth having. I’m just gutted I can’t afford a digital one as I should imagine they are far more reliable.
Note from POWERbreathe Admin:
Thank you Bartlebe for your feedback and we’re delighted the POWERbreathe Medic has helped you with your asthma. We were sorry to hear though of your experience with the valve sticking. Obviously we value your feedback, and as it’s not a problem that we’ve heard of before, we wondered if you would mind getting in touch with us at enquiries@mypowerbreathe.com so that we may help. We’ll look forward to hearing from you Bartlebe, POWERbreathe.
