"Good news for snorers and those who bunk with them: Simple tongue and breathing exercises may ease sleep apnea.

People with apnea stop breathing periodically during the night, and not only tend to snore but also run a higher risk for hypertension and stroke.

After three months, study participants had fewer apnea episodes, snored less, and slept better. The exercises strengthen the muscles in the airway so it can stay open, says lead study author Geraldo Lorenzi-Filho, M.D.,Ph.D., of the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil."
