POWERbreathe K5 on the table in BBC TV Programme

‘Bang Goes the Theory’ is a BBC TV programme that investigates the science behind the headlines, and on Monday 22nd April Jem Stansfield tested out the very latest in self-monitoring gadgets as he investigated the world of self-tracking. On the table was our very own POWERbreathe K5.

The latest episode looked at the new technologies that are at our disposal for testing, diagnosing and treating ourselves at home - a veritable "revolution in healthcare, because medicine is getting personal".

Presenter Jem Stansfield had expert help from Dr. Jack Kreindler, Medical Director and High Altitude Medicine Specialist, to assess the...

POWERbreathe K5 helps 93 year-old inhale her much needed medication

We were recently informed by a physiotherapist in Brazil of a 93 year-old patient who sadly didn’t have the strength to inhale her medication. Paulo, her phsyio, immediately thought of getting her to use POWERbreathe on a regular basis to train her breathing muscles to become stronger so that she could inhale the medication she’d been prescribed.

We’re delighted to report that she is now able to inhale her medication successfully after training with the POWERbreathe K5. And thanks to the Breathe-Link software, Paulo, her phsyio, was able to chart the progress she was making with her breathing strength and actually see her breathing power...

Our very own Duncan is visiting our POWERbreathe friends in Brazil and has just sent us this little update…

A long journey yesterday. Got to bed at midnight UK time having left home at 2-40 am UK time.

Flight was on time and no problems although I find it hard to control my air rage towards the person in front of me who tipped his seat right back for the whole flight! (Take a deep breath Duncan, you should be really good at that!)

Arrived safely, very fast through their customs, they let anybody in! Got a lift to the hotel with Pedro (our man in Brazil) in his bullet proof car!! Didn’t ask why he needed one. Don’t think I will go out on any runs...

Over in the Czech Republic our POWERbreathe distributors for the Czech Republic & Slovakia (Truconnexion) had a booth at a cycling marathon event in Teplice with 450 racers on Saturday 11th August where they did demo’s with the K5 and also held a competition for the highest test score with the POWERbreathe challenge. The highest score was 184 cmH2O for the men and 93 cmH2O for the women. Please see pictures attached.

Also these guys did a promotion with the Eurosport channel throughout the Olympics where someone had the chance to win a POWERbreathe Plus every day for answering the questions correctly.

Ian Locke, founder of Thrive Personal Training in Swindon, provides personal training in a private gym as well as nutritional analysis to help clients reach their health and fitness goals.

Here he tells us how he’s been getting on with his second week of POWERbreathe K5 training…

So the second week of my POWERbreathe training is complete, but there isn’t a lot of progress to report. In fact, my test results regressed slightly this week, but then that can sometimes be expected with muscle development. Now that I’ve got a bit of history in the Breathe-link PC software, I’ve been trying to make sense of the charts, but my results are all up...

  • Ben Barwick - London Marathon preparation

So, The Virgin London Marathon is only 2 days away and I have been back on the POWERbreathe training over the last few days to get myself as ready as possibly for the race.

I was away for 5 days last week and in my rush, I forgot to take my K5 with me. I even contemplated turning around and getting it, but I did the maths and would have had 2 minutes to get the train if everything had gone right, so had to leave it. What a nightmare!

I have been using the POWERbreathe once every other day in a maintenance program. My results have stayed fairly consistent and I have felt good.

However, after my week not using the unit, I definitely felt I...

  • Ben Barwick - Powerbreathe maintenance regime

I have done one week on my 'maintenance' POWERbreathe regime and it has been a slightly odd adjustment process. Not having to use the product everyday makes me a little bit sad, I get to my desk and look at the K5, staring back at me, untouched, and I am sure I can almost hear it crying out to be used!!

Enough of the soppy story around  the K5, I have been thinking this week about whether my breathing has felt any different since I have stopped training twice a day, and I do not believe that it has. I try and use the POWERbreathe after a heavy run, when I am already fatigued, so I get the most out of the session, and the training is still hard but I...

  • Ben Barwick - POWERbreathe offers bigger and brighter things

I have realised that this will be my last week using the basic 2 times a day training, then it will be onto bigger and brighter things!!

I have done a couple of new things this week to try and get the most out of the POWERbreathe, along with testing the Warm-Up/Cool Down features.

    Training straight after a session

One strategy that I have done is to get onto the POWERbreathe straight after I have finished a session. This has been a real eye opener, and every time I do this I can feel a huge difference between the load I am using and also the quality of the session, it deteriorates a lot quicker. After a really good 20 mile long run in Richmond...
