COPD is the short definitions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. In the United States alone COPD is the fourth leading cause of death.  This respiratory illness is primarily caused by smoking, genetics, air pollution and asthma. Secondary smoke and respiratory infections can also occur in COPD.  This disease affects your quality of life as it makes breathing incredibly difficult. However, a regular exercise program can help you manage the disease better as well as increase the quality of life.

    Importance of Exercise

Hello I’m back with my 17th journal!

So I’m on the count down now less than 100 days to go eeek what have I got myself into!

Well this week I’ve been pretty active, Monday I went to body attack again – I seemed to have taken a real liking to this class and I find it pretty hard so that’s probably not a bad thing!  Tuesday and Thursday I did the same, went for a 6 mile run then an hour of body balance and then an hour of body combat!  And Wednesday I went for a 4 mile run – it's year end in work so its been pretty mental I’ve no idea how I managed to fit anything in nevermind all of that looking back!

    Friday I took to...

This week has been one of the best weeks training in a long time, I really feel that things are starting to get back to the way they were. I would say it's more mind than body at the moment, in that I mean I am getting the correct mindset and routine back that I had before I became seriously Injured in November 2010.

As I mentioned in my last post I was getting into alternate training methods such as rock climbing and Pilates. I went rock climbing on Friday evening with a friend who's an experienced climber to help get me into the swing of things. I took to it quite quickly, before I knew it I was taking fairly difficult routes up...

    21st June 2011

Hi everyone I’m back with my 11th journal entry!! Well this week things are looking up again - well apart from the weather will it ever stop raining!!  Monday I went for a cycle indoors on the interval training option (basically up and down hills) for 10 miles felt ok though I always generally get out of breath when I am doing this!!

Tuesday & Thursday then back to my favourite and combat class….my knee seems to be on the mend as it didn’t hurt at all which is great news.  And then Wednesday I once again took to the bike for more interval training – they say this is pretty good training...

    9th May 2011

Hi everyone I’m back with my 5th journal entry.  Well I did it 26.2miles complete…such a great feeling!!!  Did not appreciate the hot weather though having done nearly all of my training in the cold it certainly was a shock to the system.  Having said that though my breathing was defiantly much better than it had been a month ago even in the heat so my POWERbreathe training is definitely working!

That was on Monday and I was straight back to work on Tuesday nonetheless I was on a high all week!  I haven’t been able to get my trainers back on my feet though as I now have a couple of wobbly toe...

Hi everyone I'm back with my second journal!  Well this week I've been a busy bee first of all I had the Titanic 10k on Sunday which went OK but it was really hot and they ran out of water so there were a few casualties!!!  Once i got over the shock of the heat and i settled into it i do think my breathing had defiantly improved slightly which is great news considering the conditions and i was able to make it the whole way round without stopping though a lot slower than i would have liked but hey we cant have everything all at once I am only a beginner after all and a beginner with very sore feet!!!

    Model used: POWERbreathe K3

    Tuesday 1st March 2011

Mission POWERbreathe training commenced this morning. I have done it before but became lazy and stopped but I need to start again especially with the marathon looming – I am going to need all the help I can get to get me to the end of the course next month!

Did it before eating my breakfast as it is in some ways quite “energetic” and I don’t like to do POWERbreathe training straight after eating.

The evening seemed a bit more of a rush what with getting home from work, then running training, stretching, a shower and then straight on to cook...
