Biolaster, our POWERbreathe friend and distributor in Spain have announced details of a study that will try to improve the quality of life and health of 100 children with asthma, using POWERbreathe for 4-weeks.

Simply defined, asthma is a medical condition which affects the airways in some people. These airways are tubes which help us transport oxygen into and out of the lungs.

Breathlessness and wheezing are a couple of the symptoms of asthma. These symptoms differ in severity from person to person. Some people may suffer symptoms several times a week, or in worse cases several times a day.  Asthma can be at its worst during physical activity, when it's cold, or at night.  An asthma attack is caused when the lining of the bronchial tubes swells up. The London Evening Standard reported on 25th July 2012 that a quarter of Team GB suffer from exercise-induced asthma, including swimmers Rebecca Adlington and Jo Jackson, Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins, marathon runner Paula Radcliffe, defending Olympic rowing champions Pete Reed and Tom James, and footballer Craig Bellamy, according to charity Asthma UK.

Asthma UK recommends people with asthma participate in exercise as it improves lung function and can help manage the symptoms.

I have now been using my Powerbreathe Medic for 3 weeks.  The day I started using it I also reduced my inhaler dosage. This was done with the full approval of the nurse at the asthmas clinic!

I have been tracking my peak flows twice a day to give me an objective picture of what is happening.

I follow a lot of triathletes on Twitter, and Mel Ryding was mentioning POWERbreathe and how it was reducing her asthma inhaler usage at track running sessions.  I am an asthmatic who uses Seretide inhalers twice a day and have been talking to the nurse at the asthma clinic about trying to reduce my usage.  I had got down to three puffs a day and I want to see how low I can go so I swapped a few messages with POWERbreathe and discovered that a version is available as a medical device on prescription!

The Telegraph online lifecoaches looked at health tips for long-term asthma sufferers.

The question of how effective breathing exercises would be for long-term asthma sufferers was raised and it was suggested that some people have found the Buteyko breathing technique helpful in reducing the level of symptoms.

I am using my new Powerbreathe Fitness Plus and it is a great help with my fitness training.  There is a Gym nearby which is a great help; various classes are available and good equipment to use, which is all helping my training schedule.  I am also cycling, so things are going O.K.

Looking back, my love of cycling has helped me remain fairly fit for someone who has had asthma since I was 2 years old, (I am now 74!!!) and it is this interest in cycling that lead me to discover Powerbreathe!

Hi, I’m Jo and to celebrate turning the ripe old age of 35 and becoming a veteran this year, I have decided to challenge myself to run all the World Marathon Majors: Boston; London; Berlin; Chicago and New York. Although I am running this for personal achievement, I have also decided to raise money and awareness for asthma.

I have chosen to do this as my PhD was in respiratory medicine focusing on asthma research and I suffer from asthma myself. Apologies it’s been a while, I have been rather busy with the usual things in life (NVQ, Youth Work, Kickboxing, General Fitness training, Fund raising, meetings, my regular full time job and of course family life).

The good news is I have almost completed my NVQ  and I have now broken up from Youth Club for Christmas so have my evenings back and have taken a little time out from Kickboxing over Christmas.
