Extra calibration of Powerbreathe. Has anybody tried checking out a Powerbreathe with a piece of tubing as used routinely for infusions and available very cheaply at chemists. I simply bore a 2 mm hole in the side of the PVC mouthpiece and place the lower end of the tubing in a glass of tinted water. My log is quite different to results quoted in the literature. See e.g. “Specific Inspiratory Muscle Training in Patients With Mild Asthma With High Consumption of Inhaled b2-Agonists” p. 724.

It is a mystery to me why the Respironics Threshold device is limited to to 7-41 cm H²O. Such a small range.. Cheers Richard Friedel .

Hi Richard, thanks for your comments and sharing with us your different method of using POWERbreathe. Here at POWERbreathe we do not recommend that you alter the physical form of your unit. POWERbreathe is intended as an inspiratory muscle training device in the form it has been designed and developed. Altering your POWERbreathe will also invalidate the manufacturer warranty because you are using POWERbreathe in a way other than in which it was intended. Please also note that we cannot comment on specific medical applications or uses either.
    Thank you.
